Hey Runners,
One of the questions that people ask me all the time is "How can I be a mod?"
Moderators are chosen by the GMs to help keep the forums a friendly and fun place. They do this completely voluntarily and receive no pay, reward, gift or compensation.
Being a moderator is a difficult job. They are often targeted by people who are upset at the rules and are taking it out on the people enforcing them.
When we choose mods we look at a person's forum history to see if they are:
Helpful - Since moderating is a volunteer job, only people who want to help will be selected. The best way to show that you want to help is to start helping.
Patient - Moderators have to deal with people asking the same questions all the time, and with people breaking the same rules all the time. You need the patience to deal with these without letting your frustration show.
Professional - You need to be able to distinguish between people breaking a rule and people posting an opinion you don't agree with. You need to be able to resist the temptation to use your position to win arguments for yourself or your friends. If you have problems you need to be able to deal with them properly - almost always in private with a GM. You need to not take things personally.
Non-Confrontational - You are certainly allowed to have an opinion, but a lot rests on the way you express it. Moderators are expected to not get in fights on the forums under any circumstance.
Conscientious - You need to follow all of the forum rules. It's a good idea to report posts that break the rules rather than replying to them.
In short, to be a mod you need to be a model forum citizen.
